Abby's Quilt

I finished the quilt for my great niece, Abby. Just in time, too. Abby lives in Minnesota as do her grandparents (my sister and brother in law). I'll see my DS and BIL in Ohio this weekend so I'll hand it off to them. I'm glad not to have to put it in the mail. The USPS is very reliable but I always feel a little anxious mailing a quilt.

Here is the back-

I used the scraps from this quilt for the light section of the hour glass blocks. I was running out and was ready to use a substitute when I decided to do a little digging in the scraps and strings. I found enough to finish the quilt and even pieced some together for the background of the "Abigail" block. This is what I have left-
Not much. I love this happy little print and will enjoy using it in my scrappy quilts.

I made lots of "parts" while making this quilt-
I'll use them for this quilt. And maybe I'll make more for another baby quilt. My nieces and nephews are always one step ahead of me. Halle Paige was born in August so I'm planning another quilt for another little one. Not sure I'll use these 9-patches though. I'm thinking maybe some bigger shoofly blocks. Or maybe some stars.

    This is a wonderful scrap quilt--I have always loved 9-patches set with the hourglass block. It is such a sparkling concoction!
    You know I have Crabapple in the making, too? Mine is in fall colors, and progress has been slow, but it is just because I work on it so sporadically. The blocks go together quickly when I actually focus on them--and you are a jump ahead!

    Very, very nice with the controlled background and the scrappy blocks! Love how versatile scraps can be and the back of the quilt is delightful for a child.:) Your Crab apple block is wonderful too, there's just something about tree blocks isn't there?

    Abby's quilt turned out wonderfully~!!~ and isn't if fun when we have 'just enough'~!?
    i really like the idea of including a name within the piecing of the quilt (front or back) especially for a child's quilt. i hope that i remember that next time i make a quilt for some small someone in particular.

    always good to have a few extra bits leftover . . . sort of like sourdough starter.

    It is gorgeous Maureen - fabulous finish!! And I love the back too - so neat with her name on it!! That looks like a nice amount of scraps to have left over, enough to pop into another quilt for old times sake :-)

    wow!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! Next to stars - nine patches are the best!! And scrap to boot - can't beat a quilt like this!! I'm sure Abigail will love it!! What sweet fabric - Maybe I wasn't a follower in January - but I love your grab apple blocks!!! The little left over nine patches will go perfectly!! Love the flowers in the background of the quilt photos - what kind?

    Thank you so much for explaining the difference between the straight set and the on point set when using the hourglass alternate blocks. I really see how much easier the straight set is with the look of the on point!
    And the reds make it look so rich! It's a great quilt, kudos to you!
