I took a break from my current project to have a cup of tea and look at an old quilt book. I found this heart quilt that I thought was very apropos for today. The above is actually a canvas floor cloth though I think I like the layout better than the quilt below.
An old favorite published in 1985. Lots of beautiful antique quilts and 80's style.
I was taking a break from this. This is a real challenge for me - all these Y seams. I'm trying to be very patient with it. It's slow going. I can see how it would be just as quick to hand piece it if one was an accomplished hand piecer (which I am not). Will be back soon with a post about how I finally settled on these fabrics. You wouldn't believe how many diamonds I cut out to get here. I'm sure I have enough left over for at least a twin size quilt.
Happy Valentine's Day! Hope it includes some creative time for you!
i have that book as well and it's a fave of mine also.....
ReplyDeleteNice heart quilt and canvas. Very appropriate!
ReplyDeleteOh, my. Tumbling blocks is a challenge I have never accepted because of the Y-seams. Good for you, tackling this patiently! Your color choices are beautiful--very soothing (which would be good when working on a not-so-soothing project) and your shading of the blocks is spot on. Excellent dimensional effect!
Love the floor cloth - but we have a fire going 24/7 during the winter - the warmth is wonderful but messy! Understand needing to take a break from certain projects - all those diamonds look terrific - but oh those Y seams, row after row...you are so patient!
ReplyDeleteI like the floor quilt design but the other one would be great for some lovely quilting. Keep going you have a great quilt in the making.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines day! i have that book too and it's a good one for any quilt library. Your tumbling block project does look like a challenge - pretty jewel tones
ReplyDeleteI prefer the floor cloth pattern too, looking like a tiled floor. Your little building blocks look great, worth the effort. Once the placement is right you just enjoy the sewing and the reward is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIts beautiful and will be worth all of those Y seams.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines!
